My journey with an incisional hernia started about 15 years ago after an appendix surgery left me with a large incision and serious problems with my abdominal wall. After multiple failed and extremely painful repair attempts, I eventually gave up and decided I would just live with my deformed stomach. For years, I dealt with pain, depression, and insecurity. Eventually the pain became severe enough that I knew something had to change. My local doctor refused to attempt another repair and referred me to Dr. Treen. I was scared when I first met Dr. Treen, but he made me feel comfortable and gave me something I hadn’t had in years—hope. The surgery went amazingly well. When my drains were removed the following week and I finally saw my repaired stomach, I cried. Yes, a 53-year-old man cried. After 15 years, I finally felt whole again. I can’t thank Dr. Treen and the Hernia Institute enough. He didn’t just repair my hernia—he gave me back my confidence and a part of my life I thought was gone forever. Truly amazing. Thank you, Dr. Treen.

My husband had hernia surgery performed by Dr. Treen on August 28, 2026 at Avala in Covington. Three hernias were repaired and one of them made him feel so insecure for many years. I am so happy and don’t know where to start. We are thrilled with the experience and the results! Dr. Treen is an excellent, knowledgeable surgeon with great bedside manner who cares about his patients wellbeing and wants them to be able to continue living life to the fullest. Even the office staff is amazing and so friendly. Felt like we’ve known them forever when speaking with them. Over almost two decades of insecurity wiped away thanks to Dr. Treen. My husband is so happy with the results and when he’s happy I’m happy!
Went in for an inguinal hernia. Everyone was very kind and helpful with a lot of knowledge and experience. The entire process from before surgery, day of surgery, and the follow up were very straightforward and pretty stress free. Dr. Treen did an amazing job along with the other doctors and nurses. Nobody is excited about having to get surgery, but if you have any hernia issues then I would highly recommend going to the Hernia Institute of Louisiana. They are very capable with a lot of experience. I was back at work five days after surgery (still a little sore) and it is an office setting. If you work where you are on your feet most of the time moving constantly, then probably would be a week or two. Had no complications, everything is looking great.
Dr. Treen and his staff are professional and caring. I felt very comfortable throughout the entire process. Highly recommend
On June 18th I went in for open surgery with Dr. Treen for a left inguinal hernia. Within 2 weeks I was back to doing normal activities. Keep in mind recovery is little painful and it takes little work on your part, but today is July 7th and I feel great. In my case he went in for 1 hernia, but found 2. He took care of both of them with one mesh. You could say that he fixed two hernias for the price of one, but don’t tell him that—LOL. That being said, he did excellent work. He also did an excellent work for my wife with laparoscopic bariatric surgery. He’s an excellent surgeon and I highly recommend him.
I was referred to Dr Treen from Dr Pippin in McComb Mississippi. I’m grateful to both physicians because I suffered for 25 years before Dr. Treen performed surgery. I had immediate relief from all my symptoms. I wish all physicians would recognize and refer to the appropriate physician/surgeon when needed to help their patients , not continually have them come back to their clinics over and over year after year suffering while continuing taking the prescribed medications that do not work. Many GI conditions that are not treated properly over many years cause complications that will be with patients for the rest of their life. I am so grateful and thankful for Dr. David Treen and Dr. Gregory Pippin . J Mitchell
Dr treen did a great job on my umbilical hernia and was very helpful and was great with explaining everything
After seeing several doctors who did not know how to treat a sports hernia, we found Dr. Treen. He agreed surgery was the only option for my daughter to heal completely and be able to continue to be active and play beach volleyball again. The surgery went very smoothly, and she had very little pain. Her recovery has been very easy! I’m so glad we found him! I highly recommend him!!!!
