Dr. David C. Treen, Jr., M.D., FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Treen received his medical degree with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency training in General Surgery at Alton Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and serves on their Candidate Interview Committee. He holds a faculty appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Tulane School of Medicine, and has served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at West Jefferson Medical Center. Dr. Treen has over 20 years of practice experience, and serves as the Medical Director of the Hernia Institute of Louisiana. He has been a member of the American Hernia Society since 1999, and in 2009 was elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the American Hernia Society.

Dr. Treen has lectured as an invited speaker and visiting professor on the subject of hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction at medical schools, hospitals, and surgical meetings throughout the United States, as well as Canada and Europe.

Dr. Treen has been a leader in the field of General Surgery for many years. His skills in advanced laparoscopic surgery are widely recognized as among the best in the country. At West Jefferson Medical Center, Dr. Treen was the first surgeon to use laparoscopic techniques to perform incisional and ventral hernia repair, inguinal hernia repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, splenectomy, gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, LAP-BAND® placement, colon resection, adrenalectomy, and introduced laparoscopic repair of hiatal hernia and GERD.

As part of Surgical Clinic of Louisiana, Dr. Treen performs a broad spectrum of general surgery, a major focus being in the field of Bariatric Surgery. The practice was awarded certification as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence for their work at West Jefferson Medical Center.

His work has appeared in numerous publications and presentations regarding recent advances in the field of surgery.
